Does Buy and Hold work?

Depends when you buy and how long you hold.

Consider the following:

1929 to 1946 = a 17 year BEAR market. If you
bought shares at any time during this period
you would have lost money. Your attitude would
then have been: Don't buy stocks, they always
go DOWN.
But then you would have missed this:

1946 to 1965 = a 19 year BULL market. If you
bought shares at any time during this period
you would have made money. Your attitude would
then have been: Buy stocks, they always
go UP.
But then....

1965 to 1982 = a 17 year BEAR market. If you
bought shares at any time during this period
you would have lost money. Your attitude would
then have been: Don't buy stocks, they always
go DOWN. But then you would have missed this:

1982 to 2000 = a 18 year BULL market. If you
bought shares at any time during this period
you would have made money. Your attitude would
then have been: Buy stocks, they always
go UP. But then....

2000 to ???? = is this a 17 year BEAR market?
Do you need a change of attitude?
